Breaking News: Twins trade Wilson Ramos to Nationals for Matt Capps

There's no official announcement yet, but I've confirmed with multiple sources that the Twins have agreed to trade Wilson Ramos to the Nationals for Matt Capps.

I'm not a fan of the move, to say the least. I'll have a full write-up shortly.

UPDATE: Twins just announced the deal as official. Joe Testa is also headed to Washington.

  1. All you guys that hate the trade…have you even seen Capps pitch? The guy is good. I am sure Mr. Gleeman can apply some metric and say he looks bad, but the guy has had one bad season sandwiched between EXCELLENT seasons.

I like all this statistical stuff, but I think you all will feel a little silly once you see Capps.

  2. The Nats got the best of this deal, but the Twins really, really did need a legit closer. Now Rauch can eat multiple innings with Guerrier and Crain, who has discovered he can get guys out with curves and sliders.

Question is, which reliever goes? I’m thinking Blackburn needs a stint in Rochester. We’ll see in a day or so.

  3. I’m old enough to remember Jeff Baumgarner and Steve Gasser for Wally Backman. I thought our GM was nuts moving two stud minor league pitchers (1st & 2nd rd amateur draft picks) for a punch and judy 2B. Turns out the cross checkers for other teams didn’t value our guys that highly. May be the case here.

  4. I’ve seen Matt Capps pitch. The Twins are in for a wild ride, not in the good sense.

  5. I’d feel bad about this trade but I’m still waiting for BJ Garbe, Ryan Mills, David McCarty, Adam Johnson, Matt Moses, and Willie Banks to break through with the big club…wait, what?

This is an excellent deal. It will look good in two months, and in two years, and in five years. Mark my words.

  7. To Jake the quote above mine: Now do you understand why everyone hated this trade? Our backup in 2012 costs 3 million, Ramos is making $450K…so that would save us $2.5 million alone…Caps in horrible…we can grab a guy off the streets who will pitch better than caps…who buy the way is getting paid $4.5 million in 2012….better not make bold statements when you don’t know what you are talking about….HORRIBLE TRADE!
