Mike Trout might have had the lamest “First Major League Hit” in history. A bunt “single” that would have been a sac out, by at least a step, if Kennedy had just been able to hold on to Pineda’s throw. It could have been scored E3, or the umpire could have justifiably called him out for obstruction by running outside of the basepath, as he was running inside the foul line. I suspect that me might be a little embarrassed to keep that ball.

The gentleman pictured that snatched the beach ball is Bob McConnell, one of SABR’s founders and a man with a long resume. I say that as a point of information, not to minimize what was likely a humorous scene.

As for me, yes, my time in the poker room was brief. In my defense, it was 1:30 AM, and I felt that if I sat down I might never get back up. I was scared.

Aaron, I feel like Dial was describing me in the second photo of your recap. I seem to have missed just about *everything* worthwhile at SABR41. Oh, I saw a few research presentations — including the extraordinary Pappas Award winner by Ross Davies — but my blood alcohol level was far too low over the entire weekend.

Keeping track of the whereabouts of the BTF/THT/AG crowd during a SABR convention is just about the only positive value I can see in Twitter. That’s probably not enough to get me off my Luddite ass and move into the 21st century, but it’s a consideration.

As always, thanks for the recap. I’m already chuckling to myself at next year’s prospect of “Aaron Gleeman, host-committee volunteer”.

Two things:

One, I realized that I really miss his regular column when Aaron is on vacation. I had a very hard time watching Alex Burnett pitch in tight spots this week without Aaron’s comments on that. I have become dependent on this site.

Two, I know that some of the critics/haters on this site have said that anyone could write this stuff , and that just isn’t true. This is a long post about a bunch of nerds (per Aaron’s own description) going to a convention, and it was really interesting and funny.
