the Twins lose the following contracts this year; Pavano, Baker, Capps, Marquis not to mention casilla, frankie’s salary that is gone. That is about 30 million right there.

Not to belittle your point – which on the surface is valid – there is some universe where they are a .500 team as soon as 2013.

If you see the Pohlads drop $30-40mil on (middling) starting pitchers during the offseason, I guess technically anything is possible.

However – with history as my guide – I would say we would be lucky for the FO to sign 1 guy @ 10-13/yr

the Twins could turn it around as early as next year. I think they need to do the following.

1. sign 3 starting pitchers at 10-13 million each; pick from these guys-Edwin Jackson , Kyle Loshe, Fbomb, Chris Young. Let gibson, diamond and others fight for the last 2 spots.
2. Move willingham to fulltime DH.
3. Sign Torri Hunter to play RH, move Span to left and Revere to center.

Hopefully everyone stays healthy, Dozier picks it up at SS and Plouffe continues to develop.

Let’s not give Ryan so much credit for signing Willingham, remember he was their second choice as they really wanted Cuddy back and only signed Willy after Cuddy wouldn’t drop his silly asking price. Think the Rockies are happy with that contract now? You can’t always get what you want and sometimes that’s lucky!

An idea on what could be an interesting article after todays star trib article about Ben Revere getting into contention for the batting title. Is Ben Revere a better batter than Darren Mastrioanni? Is Mastrioanni as good in the field? If Ben is “under the radar” what can you say about Mastrioannis season? Seems like he came out of nowhere to be a solid contributor.

Isn’t surgery a decision made by the player, and by inference his shyster-agent as much as the “Twins organization”? Is there an incorrect assumption that the Twins medical staff (methadone clinic on Hennepin Avenue) is the only decision maker?
