I actually think Mauer should be hitting leadoff. He's not fast but with that OBP and those doubles he has incredible value. Hard ground balls don't translate to success as well as you might think, with the GIDP. GIDP is a tricky stat, with players like Miggy, Longo, and Pujols leading that category over the past few years, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that Mauer's run-producing ability doesn't really stack up well next to those guys. And with his K/BB rate and consistently high OBP/AVG, I don't see what would be lost.

That doesn't make trading Span a lot less painful to me, because I am really not a Revere fan. I don't really see a future for a guy with almost no power and a terrible arm. His speed is nice but that's about it, and he strikes me as one of those players that can be maddeningly inconsistent at the plate, because so much of his game is about hitting singles. Strikes me as one of those players that can hit .320 one year and .230 the next.

Aaron, I don't have twitter, but I have a question for you either for the future or on the podcast.

Is there really such a thing as a terrible contract? I ask because while I would consider A-Rod's contract to be horrible but then again when you look at the television revenue on top of what the teams get in gates, food, etc. I just don't know that a team doesn't account for the fact that a number of players will fall off or even be a total bust.

I completely agree with you. I think Span is TE better option and highly underrated. I would say trade Revere, but like you said they will probably get more for Span so I think that is the route the will choose. Sad as it is, I mean with no Span who hits lead off? No way does Revere fill that spot.
