Gutierrez could have been claimed on waivers when the Cubs did that from the Twins or whoever. Sometimes players land on like 5 teams in the winter along those lines. The Cubs didn’t get any advantage. They were just the only team that wanted him.

Doesn’t it seem like the system is broken when a team (Twins) can remove a player from their 40 man roster (Gutierrez) and attempt to put back into AAA minors only to see another team (Cubs) sign him, add him to 40 man roster and promptly remove him down to their own minors?

Long winded question I know but it seems like the Cubs in this case took on no risk to aquire an intriguing minor league pitcher that the Twins assumenly still wanted.

Seems you picked out the 3 lowest years, AG said “more or less” not intending a precise statement. You take the last 11 years he’s ave 13m. Those 2004-2006 numbers would certainly translate into more than 10m in todays money.

Aaron, how are you calculating Hunter’s value? Fangraphs’ “Dollars” value stat pegged him at less than $10 million in consecutive years in the mid 2000′s (9.2 in 2004, 8.2 in 2005, 9.4 in 2006), meaning he would have been worth less than 20 million over consecutive two year periods, according to that statistic. Are you looking at something else?
