Talk about the spirit of the season…I have this sense thatTR’s big picture for 2013 includes either a trade that nets us a decent starter or a quality free agent pickup. I can’t believe he doesn’t understand how poorly the current roster stacks up.

He probably wanted the Twins, because he knew if he was ready, he’d be pitching. He just needs to prove he’s ready and he’ll get his shot. Not true for so many other teams.

@ Mike C: I haven’t heard anybody say anything but positive things about this. Zero risk and (however slim) possibility of a huge payoff if he can stay healthy. I’m surprised there weren’t more teams on him if he was willing to sign a minor league deal.

I know a lot of the local media seems to dislike this signing but I see it as a low risk, high reward type of chance.

If he doesn’t turnout to be able to stay healthy, they didn’t risk much. If he stays healthy the whole season, they have the steal of the off-season. If he can give them 20 starts, I think they’d take it. They have a workable rotation in place without him so this signing really doesn’t leave them hanging if he falls apart.

What is Joel Zumayar doing these days? Maybe the Twin can sign him and see if he has anything left in the tank?

I love this sort of no risk, full-of-hope-and-what-ifs signing. Best case – he comes back, remains healthy and pitches well for 3 months, and the team deals him at the deadline for a mLer with some upside. Worst case, they’re out nothing but a few bucks.

Now, go sign Marcum to a 2-year deal with an option.
