I keep forgetting about Doumit this offseason. When you take away everyone who has been in the Twins news for being signed this offseason (SP), traded (CF), talked about for potential trades (LF, 1B), had their position unsettled (3B, SS, 2B), being younsters coming up (CF, RF), or being Joe Mauer, you're left with Doumit and the relievers.

With all of the churn and rebuilding/not rebuilding, it's really nice to have those guys who are relatively cheap, going about their jobs and being some sort of steadying influence.

Aaron, do you think the monetary value of a player's production is underused by baseball writers?

Not only does it give you a nice idea of a player's value versus his actual contract but you can also use the figure when comparing a player's value against another player's?

Completely agree. I liked this signing from the start (of course, anything that would have kept Gardy from running out the black hole that is Butera for 300+ ABs would have been ok by me). I think his production is sustainable for the length of his contract and it should help keep Mauer healthy and hitting as well.

The platoon splits are a concern, because there's almost no chance he'll get platooned; is there any reason to believe that our manager will start caring about numbers like this? Seems unlikely. Still and all, Doumit is a nice asset for this team and reason to believe the team can still field a strong hitting lineup.
