Running through the base is faster than sliding, yes that is true, but only if you have your timing and stride down perfectly. Many times runners have to slow down a little so they can hit first otherwise they will step over it. In this case sliding head first is faster. As someone who has played alot of baseball and been a firstbase coach for a dozen years a see alot of guys slow down so they can touch the base. I wasn’t a fan of Punto because of his sliding into first, I wasn’t a fan of him because he couldn’t hit.
