Brian Duensing is very good over his career vs lefties. He should be brought in ONLY to face weak righties and left handed pitchers. If Gardy used him right he would be ok. Take a look at his career.

Duensing gets flipped into the starter role because it is nice to have more than one lefty in the rotation. But it doesn't work if he is unable to pitch more than once thru the order. Duensing can pitch thru the order, that has been shown, which is why he is the perfect 2-3 inning reliever, especially when an order hasn't been stacked for a lefty pitcher. The bigger question is, with Duensing not in the bullpen, who are the lefties you go to in a situation. We have the 1-2 batter wonder of Tyler Robertson, but no one else at the moment. It is a luxury to have a long-reliever from both sides. The Twins have this from the left side, with Swarzak the closest from the right, but more of a mop-up guy. Duensing in the bullpen will give him at least another decade of pitching in the majors. He'll make a comfortable salary, and eventually just be the set-up shortman that every team has a need for.
