There’s nothing magical about becoming a smarter outfielder, that’s just hard work and paying attention to the pitcher, the batter and the situation. Same is true for the most part in Arcia becoming a better hitter. If he learns how to recognize situations better, then he’ll have a better idea what kinds of pitches to look for.

Then he’ll be a Twin.

He’s already one of my favorite Twins to watch. He’s young, talented, strong, and possibly a little bit crazy. He seems completely unimpressed by the game of baseball, and at the same time, makes it look fun. I’d love to see him in a meaningful playoff situation to see if he reacts any differently, but we could be literally years from watching that. He’s an early surprise in a season that was supposed to have us salivating over Aaron Hicks (yikes) and Kyle Gibson (ehhhh, not yet).

Arcia reminds me of Bruno somehow. Lots of strikeouts, lots of home runs. The new Twins Way!
I’ve seen improvement in his fielding recently. He caught a ball on the warning track recently that Delmon Young would have whiffed on. He is hustling to catch fly balls. Someone must have lit a fire under him.

When watching him walk up to the plate, swing three times, and then sit back down in (what seems like) every plate appearance, it’s easy to forget that he’s young and will likely gain some plate discipline. It is nice to have a guy with some actual power for once as well.
