Got a question, comment, or topic idea for this week’s podcast?
Last month's mailbag episode of "Gleeman and The Geek" worked so well for the podcast that we're doing it again, so John Bonnes and I are soliciting questions, comments, and topic ideas from the audience. If there's something you'd like to hear us read, answer, discuss, or argue about on tonight's show you can send it to me/us via the comments section, e-mail, or Twitter. And they don't all have to be Twins-related. In fact, non-Twins stuff is definitely encouraged.
Podcast topic:
What are your favorite or “go to” advance metrics when evaluating players? WAR? If so, which version?
What resource would you recommend as a place to start to people for someone who really wants to completely delve into the advanced metrics world?

Mike Fast is doing a ton of work on advanced catcher metrics.
In light of these – if either of you have seen them – would you re-think signing Doumit in favor of say, Jose Molina, who profiles as the best defensive catcher in the game as far as framing pitches?
After all, with a staff that pounds the strike zone but doesn’t get the K’s, framing pitches could loom really large.

The rule 5 draft is December 8. I’m thinking the Twins can easily make room on the bench. Who should they pick in the Rule 5 draft?

Should the Twins be forced, on principle, to draft a catcher with whatever pick they get when (please, when!) Matt Capps signs elsewhere?
Do you guys find it odd that the payroll might be around $100 million given that in 2013 when several (potentially) players like Parmelee, Benson, Tosoni, Herrmann, Dozier, Gutierrez, Guerra, and Hendriks are going to be up and playing for <$500K?
Why do you guys never sound like you have actually been drinking?

I like to put thing in gambling terms (theoretical of course). There is still a ton of time for off-season activities of course, but I am guessing the Twins over/under wins line to start at about 76.5 if things shape out the way I expect them to go. Would you take the over or under assuming a 76.5 win over/under on the Twins next year if you had to decide today? Also, you can comment on how ridiculous or accurate you think my win line of 76.5 may be at this time.

First question: Do GM’s ever consider the fan’s reactions to a signing? For instance, let’s say Ryan thinks Capps should be signed to be our closer based on his analysis ( I think Capps last year was the closest thing I’ve seen to Ron Davis, so I would not agree at all) But let’s say the fans would widely disapprove. Does that play a part in the decision in reality?
Second question: Do you find yourselves self-editing in when delivering some harsh words about the organization. Afraid to burn bridges, or are you free to call it like you see it?

If the Twins are the team that get Broxton that makes TR 3 for 3 for guys near the top of your lists at MI, Backup C, and RP. If that happens are you going to start to get suspicious that TR is using your ‘Offseason on a budget’ pieces and getting advanced-metric analysis for free?

Kevin Slowey – disappointment or huge disappointment? What happened between AAA and the majors that he forgot how to get outs? Was he just never as good as his minor league numbers would indicate?

Why does the Geek always argue points with you that make no sense, example platooning?? He always is looking at what he would do as the Twins where you look at what the Twins will actually do based on the history of their moves.

I see with the Twins early moves they still lack a right handed power bat(or two). As I see it, with the current roster the Twins will have a difficult time against LHP. On that note, how do you see the Twins addressing this need?

Now that Mix Fusion Bistro has closed, what is the next restaurant in the southwest suburbs that Gleeman will endorse? I loved Mix but only made it once.
Is there any chance that a platoon of Doumit and Plouffe in right field can replace Cuddyer’s production?
The Twins mentioned awhile back that they are employing a statistical analyst. Does anyone know the name of that person? Is there any chance you could interview him/her?

I am watching League of their Own right now. Dottie Henson was a helluva catcher. Tall, Great arm, called a good game, durable, power, hits for average, works the count and looks good in a skirt. Reminds me of Mauer except for the parts about power and durable.

Hi Aaron,
I found your blog a year or so ago and have enjoyed it. I am actually from Omaha, NE but am a Twins fan because my grandparents live in MN and I was actually staying with them at age 7 during the ’91 WS.
I’ve been listening to your podcast now too and my opinion on the one or two-part is if they go over 1:15 or so you should break them up. I have to listen to your 90 minute ones in two sessions anyway.
QUESTION FOR PODCAST (I don’t have Twitter…I know, so 2005 of me): What do you think of Brian Duensing’s future? Reliever or starter, etc?
As you know, Duensing is from Omaha and played his college ball at Nebraska, and his college career has actually paralleled his majors career. From what I remember, he first flourished as a long reliever mostly on Sundays bailing out the always poor no.3 starters before being finally given a starting role when our ace went down and some success there. He then had TJ surgery and missed most of 2 yrs but then in ’05 started only part of the year as Joba Chamberlain was our ace. He actually wasn’t successful enough as a started and ended being a long reliever, a role in which he was very good. I guess I said all that to say that the major league Duensing repeated that cycle but without the injury. He initially had success as a starter but now struggled in 2011. I think he’ll be better as a reliever in the 6th/7th innings especially getting out lefties. Thoughts?

Aaron – you’ve talked about closers being developed, not born. With Liriano’s continued lack of consistency, is it worth giving him a shot at the closers role? His trade value is basically nothing, it’s hard to trust him in the rotation, why not give it a try?

I notice Eric Decker the former Gopher star, and former draftee of the Twins (did not sign) is now a STAR reciever for the Tebow lead Broncos in his rookie season (maybe 2nd year already?)
Under the new CBA, do you envision more guys turning down baseball and giving it “a shot” in other sports? And why don’t the Twins give more money to a guy like Decker in a later round and Blake Dean a year or two ago in round 10 to convince them to sign? Is it now too late for that.?… (it was nice to get Malinowski signed)
