Twins Call Up Trevor Plouffe From Triple-A
My apologies for the lack of a Link-O-Rama this week. Blame the fact that hermits like me are not well-equipped to handle their schedule being thrown off by a rare night out. I'll attempt to make up for it with twice as many links to Mila Kunis pictures next week, but in the meantime I wanted to at least note that the Twins quickly returned to a 12-man pitching staff by shipping Jeff Manship back to Triple-A and calling up Trevor Plouffe.
J.J. Hardy being out for longer than expected with a wrist injury convinced the Twins to give Plouffe his first taste of the majors rather than fill the spot with Matt Tolbert or a 13th pitcher. Plouffe also earned the call-up by hitting .303/.367/.493 in 38 games at Triple-A, which is the best showing of his seven-year career and puts him back on the prospect map after his stock had slipped. This offseason he ranked No. 27 on my annual list of the Twins' top prospects.
Glad to hear you got out. I guess I’ll have to fill my weekend surfing elsewhere.

what about Repko or Jones? They are hitting good at AAA…give them a chance?

Jones and Repko aren’t on the 40 man roster.

When Gleeman first clamored for Ploufe, I thought it was a bit off base. I figured Hardy would be back in 5 games so why bother starting Ploufe’s clock for two starts.
This is concerning though. Looks like Hardy might be out for a while.

Aaron, when you get time, can you fix the link to the Rob Neyer site?
Didn’t they need to keep Tolbert down for 10 days since they just sent him back?

Here’s hoping that several seasons of minor-league mediocrity and a few good months at AAA translate into an effective big-leaguer. Hey, it worked for Denard Span!

I’m excited for Plouffe. He was a highly touted draft choice and is finally showing that he can play in the minors and play well (maybe not defensively). Give him a shot – Denard got his and never looked back.

Here’s to hoping he pulls a Span!

Anyone but Matt Tolbert. Thanks.

Is Trevor’s last name pronounced “ploof” or “plowf?”

The reason they didn’t call up Tolbert is because they can’t…you have to wait 10 days to re-call someone unless there is a new injury.
