“Gleeman and The Geek” #28: My Twin The Car

This week's episode of "Gleeman and The Geek" was recorded at Scoreboard in Minnetonka and our beer of choice was Grain Belt Nordeast. Topics included the death of my car and whether to buy or lease, claiming Darin Mastroianni off waivers, Luke Hughes' shoulder injury, comparing the Twins' payroll to the MLB average, and a hitter-by-hitter breakdown of Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, and all the position players as spring training nears, including cars they resemble.

  1. Aaron, do not buy a car. At the rate you need one, hire a limo. You’ll save money.

  2. Saw some love on Twitter for John’s comparison of Mauer to a Saab, and wanted to echo that here. Brilliant. A high performance vehicle that IS a luxury car, but doesn’t appear flashy or exciting, is extremely expensive, and also very complicated and expensive to repair when it breaks down.

  3. Aaron, buy a used Prius. You can get a 2005 for under $7K (Craigslist) with full features: cruise, AC, JBL stereo, electric windows, etc. They get 45-50mpg in town, 46mpg at 70, traction control and ABS brakes. They also have nice, roomy interiors, reminds me of a Passat. These things seat four very comfortably, with all kinds of well-designed storage compartments.

Plus, they have a definite geek factor. Just avoid the silver-gray ones. God, what a dumpy color for a car…
