Radio, Radio: “Gleeman and The Geek” on KFAN

Writing about the Twins beginning the season by getting swept by the Orioles doesn't sound like much fun and luckily there's some sufficiently distracting news to share instead ...

My podcast with John Bonnes is coming to the radio.

We've joined KFAN and starting this week a live version of "Gleeman and The Geek" will air every Sunday at 4:00. We'll talk Twins, banter back and forth, chat with guests, and basically do all the stuff we've done for 35 episodes of the podcast, with the added bonus of being able to take phone calls from listeners. And the podcast isn't going anywhere, so you'll still be able to listen to the entire show here or via iTunes or however else you currently download it.

I've always been a huge talk radio fan and grew up listening to KFAN, so this is a big thrill and I'm very excited about the opportunity. Thanks to KFAN for putting us on the actual airwaves and thanks to PickPointz for sponsoring the show. If you like us and want to hear more of us in the future please show your support by listening each Sunday afternoon on KFAN and by signing up for a free account on PickPointz, where you can win prizes for sports predictions.

  2. Great news about a great podcast. I just listened to the episode with new beat writer from the PP. Not to go all old-school, but the discussion of insider access and outsider perspective reminded me of a great quote:

“I’ve never said, never thought, that it was better to be an outsider than it was to be an insider, that my view of the game was better than anyone else’s. It’s different; better in some ways, worse in some ways. What I have said is, since we are outsiders, since the players are going to put up walls to keep us out here, let us use our position as outsiders to what advantage we can. Let us back off from the trees, look at the forest as a whole, and see what we can learn from that. Let us stop prentending to be insiders if we’re not. Let us fly over the forest, you and I, and look down; let us measure every tract of land and map out all the groves, and draw in every path that connects each living thing. Let us drive around the edges and photograph each and every tree from a variety of angles and with a variety of lenses; and insiders will be amazed at what we can help them to see.” –Bill James, 1984 Baseball Abstract

  4. Great news on your radio gig, confirms what I thought was a pretty good broadcast! Also glad you are going to continue the podcast for those of us out of radio range. I have a feeling we are going to need your banter to get us through this year.

  7. PMack was right, your platform is getting too big……but how did he know you were getting a gig on the radio? It must be true what he says about inside information.

Congrats on getting your own progum, get yourself some good sound bites, take lots of calls, play good bumper music, let it breath, and you can’t fail. Good luck, I’ll tune in.

  9. Any chance these spots are going to be podcasted or archived in any way for those of us outside of MN?

  10. Yes. If you subscribe to the podcast, you’ll still get them automatically. In fact, we’re planning on adding a extra half hour of talk to those that download the podcast.

  11. Congrats! I hope you’ll talk about the horrible Twins defense. Is it the worst in MLB history? It might be. Track the defensive efficiency stat to find out.

  16. AG, congrats on the air time with KFAN. Unfortunately, the way this season is shaping up you will be talking to about 12 listeners. I know the FO was afraid this would happen, but any hope for this season could be gone in the first month. Yikes!
