Luis Oh-For-Three Three-For-Four-Vas

"The sun even shines on a dog's ass some days." - Sidney Deane

I take back all that silly Luis Rivas nickname stuff...at least until today's game starts. Mr. Rivas (I say mister because he obviously deserves that type of respect) went 3-4 yesterday, stole a base, drove in a run and scored 2. An all-around tremendous game. Of course, he raised his batting average to a robust .192, but that's another issue...

The disturbing trend of the team not taking any pitches and basically swinging at anything and everything continued, despite the Twins scoring 6 runs and winning their first game in a while. The Twins combined to strike out 12 times and walked once. They saw 3.15 pitches per plate appearance, after seeing 3.00 per PA Thursday against the Yankees.

But hey, a win is a win and I'll definitely take it!

On the same day that Luis Rivas went 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, Randy Johnson gave up 10 runs in 4 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers. Who would have predicted that? Well, me! Check out my "picks" from yesterday and you'll see...

"Milwaukee (Franklin) +340 over Arizona (Johnson)."

Of course, I didn't think it would actually happen, but I liked the +340, so I took a chance on it.

Take a look this little tidbit:

Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson prior to 2003 - 497-258, 2.93 ERA

Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson in 2003 - 0-5, 9.56 ERA

Meanwhile...

Runelvys Hernandez - 3-0, 0.45 ERA

Today's picks:

Philadelphia (Millwood) -140 over Cincinnati (Haynes)

Los Angeles (Brown) +130 over San Francisco (Schmidt)

Milwaukee (Kinney) +335 over Arizona (Schilling)

Detroit (Cornejo) +180 over Chicago (Stewart)

Kansas City (George) +120 over Cleveland (Sabathia)

Baltimore (Johnson) +330 over Boston (Martinez)

Total to date: - $100

W/L record: 22-24 (Yesterday was a very strange day for my picks. One game got rained out, I won a +340 bet on the Brewers against Randy Johnson and lost two games on walk-off homers! Plus, I went 3-4 and still won $150.)
