Twins win bidding for negotiating rights to Tsuyoshi Nishioka

More later, but for now ... wow.

  1. Nishioka! Huge.

In KC for the holiday, and Greinke to MN rumors abound here. Kyle Gibson and one of Morales or Hicks, plus some extras? Is that what people are talking? Seems unlikely both because the Twins don’t seem so aggressive in trading as this would require, and also because the intra-divisional thing is always odd (though maybe the Royals are thinking that Greinke wouldn’t resign with MN after 2011, and since KC won’t be contending before then, who cares if Greinke pitches for the Twins). I don’t know. But the idea of Nishioka at 2B and Greinke and Liriano in the rotation is pretty damn exciting. Fans can dream…

  2. As good as Greinke is, he still generates some questions for me. Not sure I’d be willing to make Gibson part of the deal. I’d give a lot, but not Gibson. He is the only potential top of the rotation guy in the near future in the farm system. (insert argument/mock for short-sightedness here)
Very excited about Nishioka. Looks like 2B & utility middle infielder will be between he and Casilla.
Still seems like we need to retain Hardy. Excellent SS.
If Casilla shows up big maybe we can trade Hardy to the Yankees. They got some idiot asking for $25 million/year.

  3. if the twins aree able to work out a contract with Nishioka, theyll trade Hardy and probably bring back LNP at a lesser price to back up both Nishioka and Casilla. if they were unwilling to pay Hudson five or six million to stay, im sure they are not going to shell out big money for a Nishioka Hardy middle infield

  4. I dislike the move. Be a great move if the moved him to 2b and kept hardy but they wont. Next year well have a worse defensive, less productive, much less valuable middle infield for basically the same price. They will be faster though!! And that important!!

  5. I think this confirms that Hudson agreed not to accept arbitration. You don’t offer him arbitration if you’re planning on make a big bid on Nishioka. Hardy and him make up a nice infield with Casilla taking Punto’s job, minus the favoritism.

  6. Big fan of this move, and I admit, I didn’t think they’d bid enough. Happy to admit I was wrong. Here’s hoping Hardy is at SS, and this guy is at 2B, with Hughes/Casilla on the bench.

  7. “Hughes/Casilla on the bench.”
    I agree.
And Hughes has 3B experience to back up Valencia. That covers the infield.
    What happens to Morales?
