  1. John Sickels of MinorLeagueBall.com had the Twins select Carlos Correa, SS (Puerto Rico HS) in Minor League Ball’s community mock draft.

  2. Just a few thoughts on drafts past and present: bad luck lowered the value of pitchers bashore, tootle, wimmers, and hunt. if gibson recovers well from tommy john surgery, that’s great. the odds are in the twins’ favor, for the june 4 draft, if they select pitchers using the same decades-long criteria.

now may be the best time to sign liriano and baker to 2-year contracts cheaply. can’t see liriano getting a ton of interest from other teams. baker should be on the road back from tommy john by august of 2013, and if liriano can get comfortable and confident, he could anchor the rotation for the next several years.

    best baseball movie? the natural.

optimism for this season: have a good draft, develop young players the right way, stress fundamentals.

  3. I agree for the most part, ifs. Maybe the “devils we know” will actually be priced cheap compared to their potential worth. The starting pitching situation is unbelievable.

Best baseball movie though…”Major League” is closest to the fun baseball mentality. The Natural is too sentimental in the wrong way…

  4. I think the only reason Span is still in CF is b/c Twins feel that moving him to RF will lessen his trade value. That is the only explanation I can come up with. Maybe this means they are more likely to trade him??? Also, Field of Dreams is #1 followed closely behind Bull Durham and The Natural. Sandlot not too far off too…

  5. I don’t see anyone gambling $20 million on Morneau. He could be tradebait in the offseason if he stays healthy this year.

Best baseball movie — Bull Durham, followed by Major League (a close second)and Bang The Drum Slowly.

  6. Bull Durham, Major League, and The Natural (minus the hideous Hollywood ending) are all good, safe choices.

    Yawn.

The Kid From Left Field gets my vote. Even the cat had a cool name (Debru).

  7. jfs,

Can you expound on what you mean when you say “stress fundamentals.”

In my experience, the emphasis on the term “fundamentals” in regards to the Twins has implicated detrimental attitudes and behaviors: avoidance of power hitters and power arms, overemphasis on sacrifice bunts and so-called “small-ball”, surrounding our star players with washed-up former contributors and league-minimum players with “good chemistry”.

    YMMV.
